Latest News, 17th March 2011: Orca has been lost in a collision with a tanker in mid-Atlantic while being returned from the Route du Rhum race. Crew Richard Tolkien and Henry Bomby were picked up uninjured by Atlantic Spirit..... More
Orca is a Class 40, based at Hamble Yacht Services on the Solent and currently campaigned by Natalie Jobling and Tom Hayhoe, and owned jointly with Richard Tolkien. Humphreys designed, and built by Ocean Tec in Slovenia, she was launched in September 2008.
Natalie and Tom previously raced Mostly Harmless, a Prima 38, and Mithril, a Sigma 33.
Natalie and Tom also race a National 12, Chill Out, on the Thames at Ranelagh Sailing Club and a Laser SB3, Heart of Gold, which is kept at Datchet Water Sailing Club. Natalie is a trustee of the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy and Tom is vice commodore of the Royal Ocean Racing Club
We have a large pool of crew who helped us campaign our previous boats, but there are sometimes opportunities for people with suitable experience to fill gaps in the crew for specific events or deliveries. We are especially keen to introduce new people to Class 40s who might be interested either in chartering or buying one of these exciting boats.
Our 2010 programme includes the Skagen Race in May and a full RORC offshore programme (which includes a separate classification for Class 40s) including the non-stop Round Britain and Ireland Race in August. Please contact Tom to find out more.
Visit the class website for more information about Class 40s.
